Shamshad Ahmed is a sole proprietor who takes pride in helping people. He is our featured business graduate this week. He is a board certified prosthetist and orthotist, helping patients with a wide variety of needs to enjoy a better life. Ahmed took the Business Planning for Profit course at Unlimited Future in 2010 and has been in business at 223 26th Street in Huntington since then. He credits Ursulette Huntley and his training at Unlimited Future with preparing him for operating his business successfully.
Ahmed is trained and board certified in both prosthetics and orthotics. They are two branches of the field requiring separate training. Training includes both academic study and residency to gain understanding of the field. These professionals work with patients and their physicians to provide equipment to improve their comfort and physical function. Ahmed’s website, americanpaoc.com, explains that orthotics provides braces while prosthetics provides replacement limbs. Ahmed points out that in many cases his equipment provides excellent function for the patient without being noticeable to an observer.
