Local Foods Expo Welcomes Chef Dale Hawkins to Huntington!
Huntington 3/18/2015- Chef Dale Hawkins, of Rock Cave, WV, is a local food entrepreneur and advocate for all things fresh and homegrown. Chef Hawkins is the owner of Fish Hawk Acres and was featured in the Bon Appetite Appalachia, a visitor’s guide for unique destinations in Appalachian states.
On a quest to find the freshest ingredients, Hawkins returned to his family farm in Upshur County West Virginia. Hawkins launched a multi-farm community supported agriculture program that gives consumers year-round access to not only fresh produce but a variety of prepared meals. The program delivers to Charleston and engages 14 farms near Fish Hawk Acres.
Hawkins will be featured as the keynote speaker at the Local food Expo on March 25th from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. Huntington 30 Mile Meal has partnered with the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition to host the second exhibition. The Huntington Local Foods Expo will take place at the Big Sandy Conference Center located in Huntington, WV.
Registration is required and costs $15 for all attendees. Attendees will enjoy a tasting showcase of foods prepared with locally grown products and a group “speed dating” session helping farmers and buyers get to know each other. An area of exhibition space will be reserved for organizations and agencies providing products and services that to assist producers, such as product liability insurance, food packaging products, training, and affordable loans. When you register you can elect to be included in the Buyer Grower Directory of local foods which will include detailed information about the needs of each buyer and the products available from each grower. The Directory will be distributed to attendees at the Expo and made available to the public online. Buyers or growers who wish to be included, but are not able to attend the Expo, can still sign up for the Directory.
