If you are traveling past Perennial Favorites on Madison Avenue, you may notice a change in the landscape. The Wayne County based Coalfield Development Corporation, has partnered with Unlimited Future to create a space for food producers to learn about season extension using high tunnels.
The 144 x 30 foot space has the potential to produce 5,000 heads of lettuce for local restaurants, grocery stores, and farmers’ markets. The high tunnel could be featured in a research project about the profitability of lettuce production in the Tri-State Area. The high tunnel system will be developed into a model for lettuce and green production.
